Ernie is an adorable 6 year old poodle mix who will easily capture your heart. He's an affectionate sweet guy who loves being around his humans. Once you bond with him, it won't be long before he snuggles up to you and rolls over for a belly rub. He loves to lounge in his various resting spots, whether it's next to you on the couch watching a movie, or digging a little spot for himself on his dog bed. He's polite, house-trained, doesn't chew on things or try to take items that don't belong to him, and knows some commands, like sit. He has a big appetite and LOVES treats  - in fact, he may even dance for them on his hind legs! He's smart, curious, alert and respectful. He doesn't seem interested in toys or playing fetch, but he does enjoy a Kong if there's food inside. He also gets excited for walks, his other favorite activity. He is strong on a leash and pulls initially, although he calms down after a bit of walking. He loves to explore.

He is protective of his humans, so while he's typically quiet inside the house, he will occasionally bark if a mailman comes by or he hears a dog barking nearby. Outside the home on walks, he is reactive to other dogs (and sometimes humans) and will bark and pull on the leash. We've been working on this with treat training, but he needs an owner who will be patient to keep working on this with him. Ideally he'd be in a calm household with a yard or in a quiet area, so that he doesn't have to encounter lots of dogs or people in a busy area every time he goes outside. He also has shown some small tendencies towards resource guarding when favoring the human he has the closest bond with, by guarding their shoe (he doesn't chew it, just takes it into his bed to be close to it), or by sitting underneath their chair when the other human enters the room (and has growled a couple times when prompted to emerge). We've been rectifying this by having the other human take over most of the caretaking to even the score, which has had very positive results. He would do best in an adult-only household, and if there are multiple adults then where they can share caretaking evenly to make sure he's not overly bonding with only one person.
